TCU Prayer Day

Annually, TCU sets aside an entire day for prayer and community fellowship, now widely known as the TCU Prayer Day. It is a time when all of us, students, faculty, and staff, pause our work and turn wholeheartedly to Christ and the amazing community that surrounds us. This event is known for being rejuvenating and filled with several meaningful activities. As part of this year’s celebration, here are the ones hosted:

The day typically begins with a time of worship held at the TCU chapel. Every other year, a guest speaker is invited and delivers a sermon that prepares us for the rest of the day and reminds us of TCU’s commitment to “Stand in the Gap.” This year, we had Dr. Kazuhiko Uchida, Pastor of the Maebashi Christ Church. He spoke from Luke 5:1-11 and the was message titled “Go away from me, Lord.” We wrapped our worship time with reflection with our neighbors. We shared our impressions, thoughts, and questions.

Next was the first small group meeting, a student-led session involving students from different years, along with a few faculty members, for a more in-depth discussion of the sermon and prayer. This year we prayed for world peace, world missions, and the physical and spiritual well-being of students, staff, and faculty at TCU.

The final event was a larger gathering of students based on their various grades. Students from both the English and Japanese tracks occupied the larger classrooms for several activities. My group engaged in deeper prayer, having us form smaller groups where students were tasked to research current affairs or generally reflect on what was happening globally. We then crafted prayer requests accordingly. We prayed for the ongoing war in Goma, DRC Congo, and a truck accident earlier in the week in Japan, amongst others. We had great fellowship and experienced a significant part of standing in the gap through prayer.

I look forward to next year’s Prayer Day, and I am eager to join in worship, prayer, intercession, and fellowship with my TCU family again.
