  • TCU has partnerships with several universities to simplify the process for students from those universities in terms of the acceptance of academic credits, payment of fees, etc. Our current partner universities with special agreements concerning the EAI Program are as follows (in alphabetical order)

• Asbury University
• Belmont University
• Biola University
• Carson-Newman University
• Covenant College
• Dordt University
• Exelcia College
• George Fox University
• Huntington University
• Judson University
• Lee University
• Olivet Nazarene University
• Spring Arbor University
• Taylor University
• University of Northwestern, St․ Paul
• Waynesburg University
• Wheaton College

  • For applicants currently enrolled at partner universities: An agreement with each partner university states that, while attending EAI, the student will continue to be enrolled at the home university, provided that the student registers for enough credit hours (usually 12) at EAI to be considered a full-time student at the home university.
  • TCU also extends a special welcome to students from universities in North America associated with the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities (the CCCU) and the International Affiliates of the CCCU.
  • Most applicants to the EAI program are currently enrolled at an accredited college or university (both at the time of application and during their time of study at Tokyo Christian University).
  • Students who have completed their undergraduate program or who are on leave from their university may also be eligible to apply for the EAI Program. If this applies to you, please contact TCU’s Admissions Office to inquire about your eligibility to apply for the EAI Program.
  • Applicants should have around GPA 3.0 at their home university. Students who are borderline are encouraged to apply, as borderline cases are determined by consideration of the application as a whole. For further questions about borderline cases and eligibility, please contact eai.@tci.ac.jp.

EAI Application Periods

TCU accepts and reviews applications for the EAI Program on a rolling admission basis from October until early April. Applications will be accepted until the final deadline OR until there is no more room left in the fall cohort, whichever comes first.

We recommend that interested students apply as early as possible.

Concerning Visa Procedure

EAI students must apply for Student Visa. After the result notification, TCU will send applicants guidelines and necessary documents for visa application. Below are the steps for obtaining the Student Visa.

  1. Student completes the payment for Tuition and Fees for the fall trimester and submits necessary documents to TCU.
  2. TCU submits the Certificate of Eligibility (CoE) application on behalf of the student to the Immigration Bureau in Japan.
  3. Immigration Bureau examines the application (takes about 1-2 months), issues the electronical CoE, and sends it to TCU.
  4. TCU forwards the CoE to the student via email.
  5. Student applies for 'Student' visa at Japanese Embassy or Consulate in his/her country by submitting CoE along with other required documents.
  6. Japanese Embassy or Consulate grants entry visa if the application is accepted.
  7. Student submits the CoE to an immigration inspector with an entry visa for the landing permission at the port of entry.

Note
  1. Student Visa can be only applied at the Japanese Embassy in your own country.
  2. A temporary visitor visa is not acceptable. Please make sure you have enough time to obtain the Student Visa before entering Japan.
  3. We do not allow exchange students to enter Japan with short-term visitor visa then change residence status to student visa because it is not guaranteed that they will be able to obtain a student visa upon arrival.
  4. Students holding other types of visa status, such as permanent residence, please inquiry us at the time of application.
  5. Please purchase a flight ticket, only after you have received the CoE and have a good prospect of getting a VISA with an appointment at the Embassy. We strongly recommend preparing a flexible flight.
