A Global Experience : June 14th

At TCU, we have Open Campuses very often, almost every month!

But recently, we had a very special kind of Open Campus, a Global Open Campus!

On the 14th of June, attendees from various nationalities, from all around the world, came to visit TCU to experience how truly diverse and international our university is.

With an incredible turnout of people from all different countries in Asia and Africa, the event in itself became a Global experience.

Similar to past Open Campuses at TCU, we planned to have mock classes, a campus tour, a student panelist interview, and so many more activities for the attendees to experience what life would be like in TCU. However, to make this particular event even more memorable, we had special musical performances to open with and extra little additions to our usual schedule, so that the attendees could experience a bit of Japan alongside TCU.

During the opening, students who have been learning to dance and make music with tambourines gave a wonderful performance. Personally, this was my favorite part of the day, the students looked so cool and stylish, while making incredible music! It was amazing!!

There was also a breathtaking Organ performance, by a TCU staff member. Hearing her talented and spectacular skill on the organ gave me chills! I love hearing people play the organ, and I’m sure I’m not the only one who loves it!

Along with other current students and TCU alumni, I was given a chance to be a part of the student panel, answering questions about life at TCU. I could share my experiences about living in a multi-cultural environment, and the small joys of daily life here. I also spoke about my favorite classes, and shared about activities and events in TCU, where I can interact and grow alongside other students, both international in the English track, and as well as with students who are in the Japanese track courses.

During the day, we also had mock classes, including a interactive bilingual class to connect the English and Japanese speakers. It was an interesting experience for attendees to see how TCU classes are designed, both lectures based as well as discussion based. Through this, we could also see the different majors, courses and classes that can be taken in both Japanese and English! Some classes are also bilingual, where students can choose to speak in either language and interact with fellow classmates in both languages!!

As previously mentioned, I consider this particular Open Campus to be very special. Particularly because the attendees were able to get a feel for the international community here, but also, because they could experience beautiful parts of the Japanese culture!

At the end of the long day, al the attendees, were able to be a part of a Japanese Tea Ceremony experience. The Tea Ceremony club, here at TCU, helped us provide a traditional experience for everyone!! It was a wonderful time, where we got to taste freshly made tea and snacks. It was extremely refreshing and relaxing – the best way to have ended the eventful day!

We hope you come to visit TCU someday too!!
