Meadow Grass

We have finally reached the ‘Finals Season’, and the Fall Semester is slowly coming to a close. I can see everyone around me doing their best and studying with sleepless nights for their exams and papers. Some people prefer to study within their rooms, and some in the study rooms or the library. Some even go off campus, to find a serene place that would allow them to perfectly focus on their assignments. Today, I want to share with you all my favorite place to study and relax.

It is within the Barnabas Hall on campus, where every Thursday, a Campus Cafe is run.

It is run by two lovely ladies, who are super kind and always so caring. They do their best to always bring the best for the cafe. All the baked goods that are sold in the cafe are baked personally by them. And of course, their baking is exceptionally good!

This Campus Cafe has been running for many years now. It was first started for the benefit of students, since there were no cafes or coffee shops close to the campus for students to relax and work in. The late Makiko Asaoka Sensei, saw this need and took action, and now today, this Campus Cafe has become a perfect place for relaxation and fellowship for TCU students.
After Makiko Sensei’s retirement, Meadow Grass was run with the help of many people. Now it is run every Thursday by two ladies with TCU connections.

I love the feel of Barnabas Hall, and the quiet homey feel of the campus cafe, really helps me to do my work well. You can often see others who are also working, while enjoying a coffee or a muffin, and this always motivates me to also do my best.

As for myself, I try to go almost every week, since it is a great place for me to complete work while also being able to enjoy snacks and drinks. I absolutely love the ‘cafe au lait’ and I highly recommend all the different flavors of muffins!! They are genuinely delicious! There are always new additions to the menu of mouth-watering desserts, including my newest favorite – Custard Pudding!!

Not only is the cafe welcoming with delicious desserts, it is also very cozy. It is placed in ‘Barnabas Hall,’ which is a building with an extremely homey and cozy feel. The time spent in the cafe is perfect to get to know the others there, while interacting and growing friendships with other students. The many club meetings, prayer meetings and parties are proof that the Barnabas Hall is loved by all for community activities. It is a convenient and comfortable place to integrate yourself into a part of TCU.

I hope that you will also have a chance to experience the relaxed and inviting atmosphere of the Meadow Grass Cafe!
