Born in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan. After a short study abroad experience in high school, he returned to Japan and began attending church. At the age of 19, he was baptized and enrolled in Tokyo Christian University with a desire to serve the church at large. While studying at Tokyo Christian University, he studied at the Biola University as one of the first students of the Double Degree Program. During his studies, he became interested in the role of Christianity in the modern world, and continued his studies at Tokyo Christian Seminary and Rikkyo University, receiving his PhD from the University of Aberdeen, UK in 2018. He specializes in the sociology of religion and Christian social ethics. He is currently working for the international NGO, World Vision Japan, where he is involved in partnerships with churches and other religions. He is an adjunct instructor at Tokyo Christian University, Rikkyo University, and Sophia University.
