MINOR IN JAPANESE STUDIES

From its inception, the ACTS-ES program has provided all students with a minimum of two years of specialized training in Japanese language, and the required courses for all students have included numerous courses across the liberal arts curriculum that are related to Japan and Japanese Studies. The development of proficiency in Japanese language and a well-rounded knowledge of Japan from ancient to modern times, then, have always been and continue to be implicit components of the ACTS-ES program.

ACTS-ES students who anticipate having fulfilled certain requirements upon graduation may declare a Minor in Japanese Studies to make this Japanese emphasis explicit in the official record of their academic accomplishments at Tokyo Christian University.

We are convinced that many of our graduates will find the addition of this minor to their academic portfolio of achievement advantageous for seeking employment or applying to graduate programs, and for any other purpose requiring the demonstration of academic excellence in Japanese Studies.

Requirements

Students who fulfill the following requirements may declare a Minor in Japanese Studies:

  1. Minimum of twenty credits in the courses listed below
  2. Course grade of B (2.0) or higher for each course applied to the required number of credits for the minor
  3. Average GPA of 3.0 in all courses applied to the minor
  4. Two years of Japanese language study (JPN 101, 102, 103, 201, 202, 203) or the equivalent. Students may satisfy this requirement in part by demonstrating the equivalent ability of JPN 101, 102, 103, 201, or 202, or in whole by demonstrating the equivalent ability of JPN 203. Students may receive credits, however, only for courses taken at TCU or transferred from an accredited college.
