Important Notes

  • Regarding financial need and aid. If the student’s family does not have sufficient resources to pay tuition, fees, room, and board, the university expects students to take advantage of loans, external scholarships, support from congregations, and other benefactors. Nevertheless, if a student demonstrates financial need, he or she may qualify for some level of financial aid. All students who have serious financial need, therefore, are encouraged to apply for financial aid.
  • Regarding married students. Although married persons are welcome to study at TCU, TCU does not provide any financial assistance for family members. And it is difficult for spouses without adequate Japanese to find jobs to cover their expenses and those of any children. Therefore, only unmarried students without any obligation to support other people (parents, brothers, sisters, etc.) will find it practical to attend TCU while receiving financial aid.

External Scholarships

Students may be eligible for one or more scholarships offered by organizations outside of TCU. Students are encouraged to search for external scholarships in their home countries as well as in Japan. TCU will also work to introduce students to scholarship opportunities and, when possible, apply for additional financial aid on their behalf.

The scholarship listed below is awarded within Japan to a limited number of college students every year.

Toshizo Watanabe Endowed Scholarship

The Toshizo Watanabe Study Abroad Scholarship provides financial assistance to Japanese and American undergraduate and graduate students for a semester or year-long study abroad in either the United States or Japan. A generous endowment gift of $10 million from Mr. Toshizo (Tom) Watanabe to the U.S.-Japan Council makes it possible to award scholarships to students for whom international study would not be possible without financial support.
