What Happens After Applying?
Step 1: Interview, Result Notification
November - April
Candidates who successfully pass the preliminary screening will be interviewed (in-person or online, about 30 minutes). Applicants will be evaluated on basic knowledge of the Bible and on whether he or she meets the requirements of TCU’s admission policy. Applicants will receive notification of the final result by email on or before the dates listed on the application guide.
Step 2: Plan Your Payment
Before or after you apply
It's important to have a clear plan for how you will pay for college.
For financial aid, international students are eligible to apply for TCU’s Noah Scholarship during the Fall Early and Regular Admission periods. Students applying from overseas and coming on a student visa are also eligible to apply for the JASSO Scholarship after arriving at TCU.
Although TCU’s tuition is about one-third of the average U.S. college tuition, it is strongly recommended that you start planning your college payment early so you’re not scrambling at the last minute.
(For example, consider asking your parents or church members for support, or raising funds through an online fundraising platform.)
Note: Successful applicants will make payment for the first trimester’s fees in May, after which they can proceed with the visa process.
Step 3: Turn in Documents, Make Payment
March - May
Successful applicants will be required to complete the enrollment and visa documents, and make the payment by the deadline specified in the application guide.
One of the required documents is the Affidavit of Support, which certifies that financial resources to support the student are in place. This document must be notarized, which can be done at a bank, a UPS Store, or other authorized location. There are even online notarization options today.
Step 4: Visa Procedure
July - August
TCU will apply for the Certificate of Eligibility (CoE) for those who have completed the enrollment procedure. After 1-2 months of review by immigration office, the CoE will be issued. After receiving their CoE, students must go to the Japanese Embassy or consulate in your own country to apply for a Student Visa
It takes about one week for Student Visa to be issued, but it depends on each embassy.
Step 5: Online Orientation, Buy Textbooks
July - August
We will hold online orientations before you come to Japan. We will also send you a list of textbooks so that you can purchase them in advance.
Step 6: Flight to Japan, orientations, class start!
Late August
TCU will arrange an airport greeting service on the designated date and welcome you to the dormitory. There will be several days of orientation covering class registration, city hall registration, dormitory life, and more. Once the orientation is complete, classes will begin!
