吉持章名誉理事長の召天

2019年6月14日朝、本学の吉持章名誉理事長が召天されました。83歳でした。1959年に日本クリスチャン・カレッヂ（JCC）を卒業し、日本同盟基督教団の愛宕山、浜松中沢、茨木聖書、平和台恵、館山の各教会の牧師として仕え、同教団の国外宣教、浜名湖バイブルキャンプ設立に尽力されました。
1972年に東京キリスト教学園の理事となり、1987年から2004年まで17年間、学園長・理事長を務められました。1990年の東京基督教大学（TCU）設立とその後の発展に大きく貢献されました。
この間、1996年から日本同盟基督教団理事長、1998年から日本福音同盟理事長、2003年からいのちのことば社理事長を歴任し、2018年に第24回日本福音功労賞を授与されています。その多大な貢献に感謝し、ご家族の上に主の慰めをお祈りいたします。
本学チャペルにおいて、後日、吉持家とTCUの合同葬が行われる予定です。

Rev. Dr. Akira Yoshimochi, Tokyo Christian Institute Emeritus Board Chairperson, passed away on June 14, 2019 at the age of 83.

Rev. Dr. Yoshimochi graduated from Japan Christian College in 1959, and served as a pastor with the Japan Alliance Christ Church denomination in several churches; Atagoyama, Hamamatsu-Nakazawa, Ibaraki bible church, Heiwadai Megumi, and Tateyama church. He was also very instrumental in enhancing the denomination’s overseas mission and in establishing Hamanako Bible Camp.

In 1972, he became a board member of Tokyo Christian Institute, and he served as the board chairperson for 17 years from 1987-2004. He contributed greatly to the establishment and subsequent development of Tokyo Christian University.
In addition to his service at TCU, he became board chairperson of Japan Alliance Christ Church in 1996, Japan Evangelical Association in 1998, and Word of Life Press Ministries in 2003. In 2018, he received the Evangelical Achievement award.

I am grateful for his commitment and pray God’s comfort upon his family.

A joint memorial service by the Yoshimochi family and TCU will be held at TCU’s chapel at a later date.
