Testing Out

  1. By receiving Level N3 on the Japanese Language Aptitude Test, students may test out of JPN 101–JPN 203 and receive credits to be applied toward the total number of credits required for graduation.
  2. By receiving Level N4 on the Japanese Language Aptitude Test, students may test out of JPN 101–JPN 103 and receive credits to be applied toward the total number of credits required for graduation.
  3. In special cases, with permission from the course instructor, department chair, and dean, a student may opt to “test out” of one or more Japanese language courses without receiving any level of the Japanese Language Aptitude Test. Even if a student successfully tests out of one or more courses, however, the student will not receive any course credits to be applied toward the total number of credits required for graduation. These credits must be “made up” with credits earned from elective courses.

Field Education Requirements

Students are required to serve at least two years in a Japanese-speaking church as partial fulfillment of their Christian Ministry and Field Education requirements (exceptions may be permitted in special cases). Students are strongly encouraged, therefore, to continue their study of Japanese language beyond the first two years of required coursework.
